Shark Island Challenge Event Window Opens

The International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) welcomes you to the 2012 NMD Shark Island Challenge – A major bodyboarding specialty event on the IBA calendar.

The 2012 NMD Shark Island Challenge is proudly supported by UPTOWN GROUP, RYDGES HOTEL, EMERALD, JUDIUS, IBA & IINET.

The event has two waiting periods seeking the optimal one-day of swell in either periods. The first waiting period being 24th April – 14th May where we then break for the South American leg of the IBA World Tour and the 2nd waiting period is from 20th June – 28th July.

The 18 competitors invited plus 2 successful trialist’s will follow 2011’s event format of 1 day of competition. Ryan Hardy from WA who won the event in 2005 will be on hand to showcase his talent as will Ben Player the 2 time world champion & 2 time Shark Island champion. We have local talent including former world No.2 Andrew Lester who was runner up last year and will be looking to take the crown over the fierce crew of invites.

The list of invites also includes Mitch Rawlins from QLD, Jeff Hubbard & Mike Stewart from Hawaii also Nick Ormerod from NSW and many more of the top riders in the world. The field has been chosen from proven capability at Shark Island and recent IBA World Tour form. The NMD Shark Island Challenge will once again be one of the toughest bodyboarding competitions in the world.
